Portfolio
Here you'll find some of my work I have created over the past years. Almost everything you see here was created using CINEMA 4D by MAXON.
Note: If you encounter problems when displaying the images, you can switch to a non-Lightbox version of the webpage.

Dexter
This project started as an ZBrush texturing exercise and ended up in this image. The tiny little hair on the ear and back are done with Cinema hair :)

Portrait of a Silent Man
YOU CAN NOW READ A 'MAKING OF' ABOUT HOW THIS PICTURE WAS CREATED [link].
Modeled in Cinema 4D, textured in BodyPaint and ZBrush, rendered in Cinema again with standard lights. Cinema's own Hair module has been used for adding the beard and hair. I used the Vreel Skin Shader as material. I
didn't do much in Photoshop. I just did some minor color correction, DOF, added the Ambient Occlusion Pass on top if the image, tweeked the eyes and added some grain and that's it.
'Portrait of a Silent Man' has been chosen by BallisticPublishing to feature in the 7th edition of Expos? - The Finest Digital Art in the Known Universe. This image has also won a cgArena.com Excellence Award [link] and was named 'Image of the month' in the French C4D community forum [www.frenchcinema4d.fr].

The Good Advice
This image is rendered completly in Cinema 4D and 3D Studio Max. I only used Photoshop for composing the different passes and for some color correction and a slight depth of field effect. Some words about the creation process:
The base modeling has all been done in Cinema 4D. Then the models were exported into ZBrush for sculpting and creating the color maps. The head has been rendered in 3D Studio Max 2009 with MentalRay, the rest has been rendered in Cinema 4D, including the hair.
Finally the different passes have been put together in Photoshop.
Click here to see a high resolution version of the image above [1600x2000 pixel]. I have also created another image with a slightly
different hair style. A thread with WIP images can be found at Renderosity.com [direct link to thread].

Fat Man
This model is based on a 'Making of' by Rafael Ghencev published in 3DCreativeMagazine (Oct. 2008). For the most of my models I start by modeling a pretty detailed base mesh and import it into ZBrush for the fine details. I followed this article
in order to learn sculpting from a low resolution base mesh (see last picture). I could have probably done a better job on the skin details, especially on the body, but I did not want to spend more than an afternoon on this model.

St. Henry's Ecumenical Art Chapel
Location: Turku, Finland
Design: Sanaksenaho Architects
Construction: 2005
The St. Henry's Ecumenical Art Chapel, outside the city of Turku stands on a small hill on the island of Hirvensalo. The shape of the building follows the contours of the site and is constructed like an upturned boat. The chapel is divided into two parts: the chapel in the front part and a gallery in the back. The visitor can study the works of art during the service. The back of the church is only lighten by a small opening in the roof whereas the front has big windows on both sided of the altar. The idea was that one walks from darkness towards light from a hidden source. In the course of time, natural light will turn the tone of the timber to a reddish color.
The chapel's patinated altar is the last public work of academician and sculptor Kain Tapper. In the altar window is a work by artist Hannu Konola, and light filters through it onto the altar wall.

Jewish Museum Berlin
I rendered an interior shot of the jewish museum in Berlin. The museum consists of two buildings, one old courhouse from the 18th century and a new addition built by Daniel Liebeskind. An empty corridor called "Void" slices through the entire building. This is the part I show in my image.

3 Friends
This is a re-creation in 3D of a little sculpture which sits on my desk. The sheep and the little teddy are created in ZBrush from ZSpheres and they are rendered in Cinema 4D.

The Drill Master
My first real attempt at modeling something human like. The modeling took 1 week and the textures rigging and lighting also 1 week.
The design of the character is from Jason Edwards (from SimplyMaya.com). This image is also featured in the december issue of the 3D Attack Magazine [link]!

I am Reachable
This little fellow's design is based on a character serie called "The Landlords" from NICI. Some time ago, I found a postcard with a similar theme and I decided to do my own version of it. I hope you like it!

Playground
I wanted to test the new hair module of Cinema 4D and ended up with this picture.
The Grass and the dandelions are all made with "hair" only. No painted parts or photos in this image. The pig and the ladybug are models I made a few months ago.

These guys are from the game Worms 3D by Team 17.
They were modeled in Cinema 4D and I used BodyPaint for the texutres.

Group of Stereotypes
These characters are from ITRangers. I modeled and rendered this image in Cinema 4D. They have all the same basic mesh, with a few changes only.

-
McQueen
This is the main character of the Pixar movie "Cars". At the time I did the modeling, there existed very few references from the movie, so he's not really that accurate.
-
Hansi
This little fellow here sits in front of me on my desk and knobs with his head. I think this kind of stuff is called Bobble Heads in English.
This was my very first attemt at texturing something in Body Paint :-)

Luxembourg Airlines
Luxair is the national airlines here in Luxembourg, but we don't have such a big plane, the biggest plane is a Boeing 737-700 :)
-
Hawker Hurricane
This is my second plane. The contrails are done with pyro cluster, the background is from 3DTotal TotalTextures.
-
Republic P47
This was my first plane. The modeling is based on a tutorial from www.colacola.se. The pilot is also from this site.
It was modeled and rendered in Cinema 4d. The smoke is created with PyroCluster, a module of Cinema 4D. The sky is from 3DTotal TotalTextures Vol.2
